History

Since 1999, the Republican Unitary Research Enterprise “Research Institute of Automation Facilities” of the Agat State Research and Production has been the leader of the Belarusian defence industry in development and production of integrated fixed and mobile systems for automated control of forces, weapons, reconnaissance and electronic warfare, including ruggedized communications and display equipment, computing facilities, radar equipment and army test equipment.

The history of the company dates back to 1969 when the Research Institute of Automation Facilities (NIISA) was set up on the basis of the Minsk Electromechanical Plant. The purpose of the new enterprise was to create automated systems for control of forces in the chain front (district) – army (corps) – division (brigade) – regiment – battalion (battery, squadron), followed by an integrated automated system for control of all services and arms at these levels.

In a short period of time, NIISA managed to become one of the leading defence enterprises in the country and was the sole supplier of integrated fixed and mobile automated systems for control of forces, weapons and reconnaissance at the front (district) level.

Since its establishment, the company has developed and fielded control systems for various applications. NIISA was the first to introduce mobile field computer networks and distributed databases to the army of the former USSR. All systems were tested and proved during all largest exercises that were held in the former Soviet Union.

The company maintains broad international contacts in the field of defence technology. For about two decades, it was the primary coordinator and participant of the INTERASU program which involved the Warsaw pact countries. Under this program, the unified field automated forces control system was developed.

The extensive experience gained over the years has helped the company to work out a unique methodology for development of large integrated control systems and to implement advanced information technologies.

Presently, the company’s efforts are directed to implementation of dual technologies in projects in the national economy, utilization of scientific and technological experience acquired in defence research and development works, as well as to expansion of the markets for the company’s products.

The major part of the company’s products is high-technology systems distinguished first of all by their high reliability, usability and long service life together with reasonable price.
